About Scott
Scott High School opened in 1978. The school was not completed for the start of school, so the students attended a split session at Dixie Heights High School, where each school attend half a day. The physical building opened for students in January of 1979.
Scott was built on a 78 acre farm in Taylor Mill, Kentucky. Scott was built on a country road with virtually nothing around. The community of Taylor Mill has grown around Scott High School since 1979. At present, Scott is in the "heart" of the city and has about 7,000 residents. The district added Woodland Middle School (late 80's) to campus. Woodland is the direct feeder school for 6th through 8th graders that will eventually become Scott Eagles.
Scott High School was named after Robert Scott, who was at one time chairman of the Board of Education for the Kenton County School District.
Scott's colors are blue, silver, and grey. When Scott was built in the late 70's, the Dallas Cowboys were the most popular sports team in America. The students that were assigned to attend Scott were polled by the administration reguarding what the school colors and mascot were going to be for the new school. The Eagles narrowly beat out the Cowboys for the mascot but the Cowboy's colors won in a landslide.
When Scott was built in 1979 the idea of "open' classrooms was very popular. For the first 30 years or so of the school classes only had one or two walls. Students and teachers could easily see into and hear all of the class rooms around them. In 2010 the campus saw major renovations. The renovations took 14 years to complete. All areas of the school and athletic complex were renovated. Scott remains one of the only schools in the state that has a swimming pool on campus. The pool was rebuilt and went from six to eight lanes, one to three diving boards, and seating from 140 to 500. The football field traded out grass for turf in 2010 and now seats 1,800 spectators. A second gym was added in 2023. The cross country course was reworked and the tennis courts, softball field, baseball field, soccer field, and gymnasiums were updated and received a major facelift in this time as well. All classrooms now have four walls now. If you were a student at Scott prior to 2010 you will probably not recognize the school due to the changes and upgrades to the facilities.
